John Welsh, producer of A New Beginning in Krome Studios, stated that Spyro as a character had also embodied the same stronger lines, tones and textures that are concurrent and thematic throughout the game. "There was an arm in the development that insisted at turns that I push Spyro into a much darker, more 'edgier' (and even terrifying) visual space, but in trying to respect the brand and its audience I think I found a middle ground that satisfied".
Jared designed Spyro during the development of The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, keeping the young hero similar to his previous game designs (1998-2005) in appearance. For Jared Pullen, it was about coming up with something that resonated with the modern audience of the time (2006) while not alienating the established Spyro the Dragon fanbase. When developing The Legend of Spyro, the task was to visually reinvent the franchise.
